Carol Hughes gets 'cut and dyed' for Cancer UK

ATHERTON woman Carol Hughes had her hair cut and dyed pink to raise money for Cancer UK to help fight the disease which has devastated her family.
Carol, 42, from Hindsford decided to start fundraising after her 54 year-old sister, Denise, was found to have cancer when she had a hysterectomy last September.
Denise told the Journal: “It is not the first time our family has experienced the effects of cancer, our mother, Valerie, died in 1986 and our brother John Hughes died of bowel cancer in 2007.
“We are all positive about the outcome of my treatment, and I would like this opportunity to thank my sister and all the people who supported her fundraising and donated money for Cancer UK.”
The cut and hair colour were done by the duo’s sister-in-law, Vivienne Hughes, who used to be a hairdresser and now works at Parklee Primary School, Atherton as a teaching support worker.
Denise, who is employed by Salford City Council in a respite residential home for children and young people with learning disabilities and hopes to return to work in a few weeks and continue doing so through the rest of her treatment.
