Tyldesley battle to hard-fought West Park win

11:48am Thursday 19th January 2012

Tyldesley 24 West Park 17

TYLDESLEY secured a hard-fought 24-17 victory against in-form West Park on Saturday to hold on to second place in South Lancashire and Cheshire One.

Bongs were slow out of the blocks and conceded an early try but were level again when the pack trundled their way over the line for a try touched down by prop Damien Twizell. Dickinson converted.

Lost turnover ball allowed West Park to cross again but Tyldesley were still finding some good field position and after they laid siege to the West Park line it was Pulman who touched down to tie the scores at 12-12.

Then a break from fly half Mark Dickinson from a scrum inside the West Park half saw him chip over the advancing defence and touch down ahead of the cover to take Bongs into a 19-12 half time lead.

West Park reduced the arrears when a huge overlap materialised although the conversion was missed.

Tyldesley sealed the game late on when the visitors were penalised in front of their own posts for offside and quick thinking from half backs Soulsby and Dickinson saw the latter take a quick tap and feed substitute Chris Corbett, who stepped inside the cover for a try which went unconverted.

Man of the Match went to Craig Pulman, but he was ably backed up by the Twizell brothers and Williams with Paul Martin having a sure footed game at full back in both attack and defence.

Tyldesley’s next game is at home to fourth placed New Brighton on January 28, kick off 2.15pm.

There is action at SGP this weekend when Steve Varley’s third team take on Dukinfield in the Raging Bull Plate second round, kick off 2.15pm.
