Tyldesley colts have no answer to big hitting Grasshoppers
4:50pm Thursday 16th February 2012
Preston Grasshoppers 27 Tyldesley 0
A CRICKET score looked to be on the cards as Tyldesley Rugby Union Club’s colts had no answer to a big Preston side during the first 20 minutes.
Slack defending and lack of cohesion assisted Hoppers to score four first-half tries.
If it had not been for some brave defending from Gillbanks, Pollard, Guest, Unsworth, Wallbank and Morley, more tries would have been conceded.
Life became more difficult when full back Guest, who was the pick of the backs in the first half, had to be withdrawn after suffering a bad knee injury at the half time whistle.
To their credit, after some harsh words and a slight reshuffle things did improve slightly although Hoppers quickly notched another unconverted try.
From that point the visitors could have rolled over but instead they played for pride.
Superb drives from Norton, Schofield, Ashmead and Weaver paid dividends.
Good distribution from Griffiths caused a few problems for the home side.
Defensively there was also a massive improvement, courtesy of half-time replacements Lloyd and Gaskell as well as Monks, Prendergast and Mennell.
Good determined team play resulted in Morley scoring a great try that was strangely disallowed.
